So, you’re looking to learn a bit more about Geeks Without Sleep, are you? Pull up a chair, and let me tell you a story.

The History:

Way back in 2009, one of our old executives felt the club…wasn’t really doing a whole lot. Sure, we held plenty of tournaments and special events. Sure, we held weekly meetings. At the same time…we weren’t really making a difference. We were just kind of…there. We were just kind of…entertainment. She wanted to change that- she had a vision.

Geeks Without Sleep was born. The premise was simple- a bunch of gamers get together to do what they love for a full twenty four hours straight- a non-stop, public gaming marathon. With help from Unicef, she set out to give form to her vision.  Before starting the show, everybody went out on their own to raise a bit of money- a sort of ‘initial deposit,’ if you will. Throughout the event, volunteers collected donations from passerby, and we ran raffles, fed our participants, and gave out prizes.

All in all, it was an amazing time, and a total blast.

Unfortunately, that executive graduated the year after the first Geeks Without Sleep. 2010 came and went without one. Then 2011.

Now, in 2012, it’s finally making a comeback.

After reading the history, you’ve already got a bit of an idea of what Geeks without Sleep involves. You don’t need to really do all that much. Get your team together, raise a bit of money, gather your games and consoles, then plop yourselves down in front of a TV for a day.

Basically, it’s what we all do on the weekend, anyway- aside from the fact that you’ll be raising thousands of dollars for a worthy cause, and meeting a bunch of cool guys and gals with interests right in line with your own. Oh, and you get the chance to win some awesome video game-related swag just by participating!

Sounds pretty epic, doesn’t it? Keep reading for a bit more information.
