Another GWOS is Behind Us

Well, folks, that’s that. We did’t make as much money as we’d expected for our charities, unfortunately…but it was a learning experience, just the same. We met up, we played some games, we had a great time, and we still managed to do a little bit of good in the process. I’d call that a success, one way or the other- wouldn’t you?

There’s just a few things I need to get out of the way at this point, so bear with me, ladies and gents.

First and foremost, I’ll need the names and contact information of our five Node Membership winners so that I can forward them to The Node- send them to

Second, we’re looking to get everyone’s input on how this year went. What did you like? What did you hate? What would you do differently? What should we keep the same? Hit us with your best shot, folks. We’re all grown-ups here: we can take it.

Finally, keep an eye on our Facebook page- we’ll be uploading pictures from the event there very soon.

Anyway, that’s all I have to say for now. We’ll be seeing you guys next year- that’s a promise.

GWOS Online Donation Form

GWOS is in full swing, the Ustream is up and running, and we’ve got an online donation page set up for anyone who can’t swing by the event, to boot! Nice! Stay tuned to the live broadcast for some epic events, cool giveaways, and awesome gameplay footage!

Four hours left until GWOS, ladies and gentlemen!  Got your team together? Got your games nailed down? Got your gear ready? Are you stoked and ready to go?

I know I am.

We’ll be posting periodic updates over the course of the evening on our twitter feed (yep, we’re finally putting it to use),and possibly here on the blog, as well. In addition, we’ll be embedding the uStream once the countdown timer reaches zero-stay tuned!  In addition, we may or may not get an online system set up for anyone who wants to donate, but can’t attend- I’ll toss you guys an update once we know what the deal is once we’ve figured out the logistics. If nothing else, we’ll get something like that in place for next year.

See everybody very, very soon! Let’s get this show on the road!

Tomorrow’s the Big Day!

I’m gonna level with you, ladies and gents. I’m still in something of a state of disbelief. To some extent, I know this is actually happening, that we actually pulled it off. But at the same time…it’s a little overwhelming, you know?  But enough babble- I’ve actually got some news to share with everybody.

GWOS now has an official USTREAM channel!  We’ll be setting up a live broadcast of the entire event, complete with interviews and game-play footage. We’ll also be looking at getting some photos and videos to post on Facebook and YouTube, as well. If it’s possible, we’re going to look at setting up a secondary GWOS channel that exclusively features screencasted footage of the games being played- but that’s still up in the air.

For those of you participating in the event, remember that setup starts at 3 PM tomorrow (though registrants don’t need to be there until around 3:30ish). If you’re planning on taking a nap at any point, don’t forget to bring blankets/pillows/sleeping bag. Be sure to also bring along some caffeinated beverages if you’re concerned about whether or not you can last the night.

I’ll see you folks tomorrow!

Hey there, ladies and gents. Here’s hoping those of you who were planning on participating in Geeks Without Sleep have already registered, because if not, well…you can’t anymore. As of this moment, registration is now closed, and our registration form has been taken offline. The good news is that we’ve got plenty of participants raring to game the night away, and this years’ GWOS is shaping up to be downright awesome.

Get your gear together, folks. Only two days until go time.

Three Days Remain

Hey there, folks! I know it’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, but rest assured, we’re still running full steam ahead.  Only three days remain until Geeks Without Sleep kicks into full swing, and we couldn’t be more excited. After months of planning, it’s really happening!

Anyway, I’ve got just a few quick things to say to everybody before I let you all get back to your day.

First and foremost, of you who are still interested in signing up should swing by our registration page post-haste- we’ve gotta know how many people are attending so we can make our final preparations, after all.

Second, our website now has a “Frequently Asked Questions” page, addressing some of the most common questions and concerns expressed to us while we’ve worked through the planning process. Got concerns about team size? Questions about equipment? Wondering what will and will not be provided? Have a look!

Third, we’re looking into getting a livestream set up so those of you who aren’t participating can at least swing by and take a peek at the action. I’ll let you folks know the second we’ve gotten it organized and set up.

Finally, check out our event listing on the Child’s Play Website! Pretty nifty, right?

Anyway, that’s all for now, folks. See you tomorrow!

Good News, Everyone!

Whew. The last few days have been mighty busy for all of us. On Wednesday, we went before the Clubs Committee to put forward our proposal for event funding. We had a lot on the line with that presentation- if we didn’t win over a majority of the committee, we were boned, and GWOS wouldn’t be happening.

On Thursday, we paid for the venue. The Clubs Committee opted to fund the event with a vote of 5 for and 1 against. In other words, Geeks Without Sleep is, finally, officially on the books!

Now all that’s left is to finalize our sponsors, and get a little more advertising out there. Full steam ahead, folks! I’ll see you at the event!
